Channel Your Inner Star at Studio B this Semester

It’s time to channel your inner star at Studio B Performing Arts Center. Studio B is now registering for -spring theater and musical theater acting classes, which start the week of February 9. Classes are open to ages 4 to high school and are designed to fit all skill levels.

Why choose acting classes? Kids can benefit from acting classes even if they are not “Broadway bound”. Drama can help children overcome shyness, have more confidence in public speaking and help develop a sense of self-awareness and self-esteem.  Studio B has offered quality theater training to students since 1999. Classes here are small, giving each child individual attention by trained theater instructors.  There is no audition or membership required to take classes at Studio B.

Studio B offers two day time musical theater classes as well as after school preschool theater introduction, three levels of musical theater classes (elementary, middle school and high school), and theater acting. Time to Register for Acting Classes at Studio B

Have you register for acting classes for the spring 2012 semester? Now is the time. Studio B is holding open registration for all students. Classes begin the week of February 6. Classes include two new homeschool classes, beginning and intermediate musical theater classes, dramatic play for younger kids and theater acting. Classes are geared for ages 4 to high school.

The Curious Savage– Directed by Charles Ballinger

Auditions: Friday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m, please bring a headshot, resume and audition form. Be prepared for cold readings. Rehearsal dates: Feb. 7-March 8—Tues/Wed/ Thur/Fri 7:00-9:00, Saturdays 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Performances: March 8, 9, 10, 11-7:30 Thursday/Friday/Sat, 2:30 Sun.

Ethel P. Savage has inherited millions of dollars and her step-children are overly eager to help her distribute the funds. The children institutionalize her, but it is there that Mrs. Savage discovers a host of social misfits who need the type of help she can provide. This popular comedy by John Patrick leaves audience members feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness and affection are not entirely lost.

Fiddler on the Roof–directed by Jill Hall

Auditions: Open to all ages. There are limited ensemble roles for younger children. Families are encouraged to participate together. Looking for strong teen and adults. Casting for all roles. Auditions are Saturday, February 11 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Please bring a prepared 1 minute monologue, 16 bars of a musical theater song with accompaniment cd, acting resume and headshot. May be asked to do a cold reading from the script. Rehearsal dates:  March 6-April 19-Tues/Wed/Thurs from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (no scheduled rehearsals March 12-17, or April 7, unless called by director). Pick up rehearsal April 26 at 6:30 p.m. Performances:  April 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29: 7:30 on Fridays & Saturdays, 2:30 Sundays

The Show: In the small village of Anatevka, the poor dairyman, Tevye, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his Jewish community and heritage despite the changing world around them. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, this musical has touched audiences around the world.

The self-centered Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham have taxed the poor villagers of Nottingham to rags, but Robin Hood and his band of Merry Players have a plan. Will the plan work? Just when the villagers think there is no hope left, Maid Marian and her ladies in waiting come to the rescue. This fun, original musical tale of Robin Hood, Little John and Maid Marian features upbeat and familiar pop songs that will have the whole audience dancing. There are many great parts for both boys and girls!

This musical workshop is presented by Studio B Performing Arts Center, voted Best Theater in the area and Best Theater for Families in the North Texas area for three years running. It is specifically designed for ages 4-13. Students are guided through the process of putting on a full musical production. Workshop includes 50+ hours of instruction including auditioning, acting technique, vocal training, and choreography and rehearsal time. Every child registered in the workshop participates! Studio B Fall Classes Filling Up Fast!

School is underway and Studio B is gearing up for new semester of theater acting and musical theater classes. Studio B Performing Arts Center, in Highland Village, Texas has been providing quality theater training since 1999. This semester, some of the favorite classes are back, along with a few new ones. All classes begin the week of September 12 and many of them are filling up quickly. Full class schedule and online registration is available at www.studiobtheater.info.

Classes offered this semester at Studio B include the following NEW classes:

Audition Technique & Vocal Masterclass by John Green Grades 8-early college: Opera singer and voice teacher John Green will be offering an “Audition Technique and Vocal Masterclass” this fall at Studio B.  Come and learn audition techniques and vocal interpretation.  This course will be diving into the audition process and what it takes to be prepared for an audition.  Each student will have the chance to perform in the masterclass and take part in mock vocal auditions and critique and feedback will be given.  Whether you are auditioning for a school production, a community production, or if you are auditioning for college, this course will aid you in your preparation.

HOMESCHOOL Musical Theater Class: ages 7-13 Morning musical theater class for the  student nterested in expanding their knowledge of the theater, acting and singing. Will end in a class musical performance.

Broadway Bound: Musical Theater Are you Broadway bound? Interested in perfecting your stage presence? This class is designed especially for the older student interested in expanding their knowledge of the theater, acting, choreography and vocal techniques. Ends in a combined class performance.

Favorite classes:

Dramatic Play: Beginning Theater  pre-k to k Students learn the fundamentals of theater and acting skills through games, role playing and acting exercises

Mini Players: Intro to Acting Grades 1-2 Basic theater class using role-playing, skits, music, movement and games. Designed for the beginner, this class encourages children to explore creative movement and play in an expressive and imaginative setting.

Playmakers: Beginning Musical Theater Grades: 2-3 Students will learn both beginning singing and acting techniques for musical theater along with basic theater movement. 

Center Stage: Theater Acting Grades 3-6 Designed for students who are interested in focusing more on acting technique rather than musical theater. Students will expand their knowledge of acting and theater and will be introduced to monologues, audition techniques, improv and stage craft.

Triple Threat: Intermediate Musical Theater: Grades 3-5 This class is designed for those who have some theater/dance experience. Hone your skills as a “triple threat”-a singer, actor and dancer through more advanced acting techniques, theater choreography and vocal exercises





Studio B: Fall 2011 Class Registration: Acting & Musical Theater Classes

Studio B is holding open registration for all fall 2011 theater classes. All classes start the week of September 12.  Classes include drama classes for preschool to middle school as well as beginning and intermediate musical theater classes. A new musical theater class for homeschool students will also be offered on Friday mornings. Studio B will also hold a monthly vocal masters class for grades 8 and up. In addition to the weekly classes, Studio B will hold an audition workshop for elementary students on Saturday, September 17. This workshop is just $55 and will teach students how to audition for productions and will include headshots and tips on how to prepare a resume.

Open auditions for Claus: The Christmas Musical will be held on September 24 for ages 6 to adult.

 





Rockin’ Tales of Snow White Opens Friday at Studio B

Rockin’ Tales of Snow White

Studio ­B Performing Arts Center, the award-winning family community theater, will present performances of the updated classic Rockin’ Tales of Snow White. The show runs August 5-14 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Performances are at 7:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2:30 on Sundays. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $10 for children 10 and under.

 The tale of Snow White has never felt so fresh and new with this funny adaptation that will make even the most jaded laugh. This family-friendly musical presents new characters and comedic twists come to life as a modern mom reads the Brothers Grimm tale to her restless children. Musical styles of all genres fuse to create a rousing mixture of hip-hop, rock and roll, doo wop and more!

Studio B Holding Open Registration for Fall 2011 Theater classes

Studio B Performing Arts Center in Highland Village is now registering for all fall 2011 acting and musical theater classes for ages 4 and through early college. Among the classes offered in the fall are two new classes geared for homeschooled students, a Masters Audition and vocal technique class, and beginning and intermediate theater acting and musical theater classes. Registration for the winter workshop musical production of Robin Hood (ages 4-13) is also open. Fall classes begin the week of September 12.

Classes at Studio B are specifically designed to teach students of all ages and skill levels interested in theater. The classes provide an opportunity to grow and learn as a performer and to help boost confidence, self-esteem and team work in a fun environment. Studio B has provided learning and performance opportunities in Highland Village for the last 12 years and has received numerous awards and recognitions. In addition, all instructors at Studio B are trained theater professionals who also have experience working with and teaching children.

Sondheim’s INTO THE WOODS at Studio B July 22-31, 2011

Into the Woods

This summer, Studio ­B Performing Arts Center, the award-winning family community theater, will present performances of the Stephen Sondheim’s hit Broadway musical Into the Woods. The show opens on July 22nd, running the 22nd through the 31st, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Performances are at 7:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2:30 on Sundays. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $10 for children 10 and under.

The show abides by a ‘fractured fairytale’ format. The story first focuses on the cursed Baker and his wife, and then later includes Prince Charming, a wicked Witch, and other classic fairytale characters, all searching for something. As they progress through the woods, they find what they are looking for, but soon discover the consequences of getting what they want.  The show features the talent of local teens and is directed by award-winning director Nick Gould and music director John Green.  Choreographer is Jennie Lynn Patten.

Managing Director DeAnna McDearmont said, “I am excited about presenting the community this show. This is the second summer we have offered a Stephen Sondheim show to the community and with a fairy tale theme it will appeal to all ages. We love to showcase our talented local youth.”

The Into the Woods cast is a diverse cast of students ages 13 to 20 from around the local area including students from Highland Village, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Lake Dallas, Corinth and Austin. The show is the culmination of an intensive summer teen workshop where students spent time focusing on advanced auditioning, theater acting, vocal and dance techniques. 

The cast includes Cast members include Ali Long as the Narrator, Abbey Killin as Cinderella, Matt Hill as Jack, Samantha Paterson as Jack’s Mother, Ryan McDearmont as The Baker, Juliana Adame as The Baker’s Wife, Lauren Cordova as Cinderella’s Stepmother, Jessica Herrin as Snow White, Tori Micaletti as Sleeping Beauty, Miranda Hamilton as Little Red Riding Hood, Nico Adame as Rapunzel’s Prince, Andrea Nelson as the Witch, Sarah Cagle as Cinderella’s Mother, Steven Martin as the Wolf, Shannon Price as Rapunzel, Molly Webber as The Steward and Sid Tanner as Cinderella’s Father.
