Studio B, the non-profit performing arts center in Highland Village, offers a full schedule of acting classes for both children and adults for the fall 2008 semester. Classes are geared towards all levels and ages, with the youngest class for children as young as four. The fall semester begins on September 22 and runs 12 weeks through December 17. Registration for these classes and for Saturday workshops is now underway.

Performing Arts Explorers ages 4-6
This class is an introduction to the arts. Each week a different aspect of Performing Arts will be explored. This class will explore acting, miming, masks, clowns, puppetry and storytelling. This class is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the performing arts.

Fairy Tale Times ages 4-6 & 5-7
In this class, students will explore popular fairy tales and fairy tale characters through theater games, movement, music, and crafts. Each week, a new fairy tale will be explored including Cinderella, Peter Pan, Puss ‘n Boots and Pinocchio.

LEVEL 2 THEATER AGES 7-10
Drama, Drama, Drama ages 7-10
Learn the basics of theater. Students will be introduced to the magic of theater through theater games, improvisation, and movement on the stage. They will gain a working knowledge of costuming and make up, stage directions, back stage etiquette and theater terms. Perfect for the beginner.

Improvisation-Whose Line is it Anyway? ages 10+
Learn the art of improvisation. Learn to think on your feet through a series of games and improvised scenes. Students will strengthen their creativity, imagination, and confidence on the stage.
Tuesday 5-6:30 p.m., $295
Musical Theatre ages 8 and up
Act and sing in this fun class. Learn how to sing and act and stay in character on the stage. This class will cover acting techniques, vocal warm ups, breathing and diction. The particpants will work together to perform songs as a group as well as solos. No previous instruction required.
Thursday 5-6:30 p.m., $295
Triple Threat ages 9 and up
Triple Threat Performers are those that can do it all–sing, dance and act! Triple Threat performers are multi-talented and well rounded on the stage with experience in the performing arts. This class will develop and fine tune the skills that enable them to become polished performers.

LEVEL 3 THEATER AGES 11 and up
Playwriting ages 11 and up
Here is your chance to write the perfect play. The class will teach students the process and technique of writing and producing their own play. Students will work on developing characters, storyboarding, and casting.

Murder Mystery Play ages 11 and up
This class will produce, cast, rehearse and perform a murder mystery that will be partially scripted and partially improv. This class is for students who have already had some experience with acting and performing.
Wednesday 5:30-7 p.m., $295
Musical Scene Study ages 11 and up
Students are introduced to the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Students will watch musicals, and then learn and perform songs and scenes from selected musicals.. They will learn vocal warm ups, scene study, musical theater history and ensemble acting. Musicals will include Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, The King and I, Cinderella, South Pacific and State Fair. Some vocal instruction and acting suggested.

Masters Acting-Advanced Acting ages 11 and up

October 11: A Haunted House Mystery
Everyone knows about the dreary haunted house on Hill Street and the ghost who lives there. When Lola Lavish breezes into town to purchase the house, everyone wonders why. Have fun following this mystery script and solving the mystery.

The kis have seen them at school and now they are at Studio B! BoomWhackers are brightly colored percussion tubes that teach kids percussion, beats, rhythm, notes, scales and more!Kids love ’em!

Willy Wonka, Jr. Children’s Workshop Production:
This children’s workshop production will take place in the Spring 2009, but auditions are December 13 from 10-2 p.m. See the “Auditions” pages for more info about our children’s workshop productions. All kids are welcome to audition and everyone participates! This is a unique learning opportunity that gets everyone out on the stage!
