Summer 2009 Sneak Peak: Stay tuned for an amazing summer at Studio B! The Teen Workshop (ages 12 +) is back and will run 5 weeks in June–an intense schedule of singing, dancing, make up and costuming will culminate into performances of “SWEENEY TODD” in July!

For the younger ones, take a two week workshop in June, which will culminate into performances of “Pirates!” Another workshop for the younger students, near the end of summer, will be “101 Dalmations”.
Our Young Adults will present “High School Musical 2″ and our community production will be “The Wizard of Oz”.

Spring 2009 Class Schedule

 

Level 1 Theater/Pre-K

Performing Arts Explorers     Ages 4-6    Tuesday 10-11 a.m..•  $220   

Introduce your child to the performing arts! Explore and expand their imagination through masks, clowns, movement, puppetry, costumes, music, and storytelling. Each week a different aspect of performing arts will be presented. This class is a wonderful way to immerse your child in creativity and fun!

Fairy Tale Times II     Ages 5-7     Thursdays 3:30-4:30    $220   

This class is a continuation of Fairy Tale Times.  Students will explore movement, music, and crafts through popular fairy tale characters and stories.  Each week a new fairy tale will be explored including, The Muffin Man, the Little Red Hen, Rumplestiltskin, Goldilocks, and The Elves and the Shoemaker. Students will explore their creativity and imagination by acting out these time honored fairy tales. The class will culminate with a performance at the end of the semester.

 

Level 2 Theater

Puppet Fun       Ages 7-10     Tuesdays 3:30-4:30    $120   

Session1, 6 weeks, Feb. 10-March 24          Session 2, 6 weeks, March 31-May 5   

Come learn the art of puppetry and explore the world of puppets through theater. The students will create their own puppet characters. Through theater games and exercises they will learn creativity and imagination.  Performance on the last day of class. 

Drama, Drama, Drama II     Ages 7-10     Wednesdays 4-5:30    $245   

This class is a continuation of Drama, Drama, Drama!  For the student who knows the basics of theater but is ready to explore further aspects of acting. This semester students will begin working on scenes and begin to understand how to create a character. There will be more work on senses, emotions, concentration, and believability.  The students will perform for friends and family at the end of this class! New students are welcome to join.

Musical Theater      Ages 8+    $295

Session 1: Mondays 5:00-6:30   

Session 2:  Thursdays 5:00-6:30   

Act! Sing! Dance! Do you know what it takes to sing, act, and stay in character all at the same time? This class will cover acting technique, vocal warm-ups, breathing, and diction. Together the participants will learn to perform a group song as well as have individual solos. Some basic  movement will be introduced. No experience required.

Triple Threat      Ages 8+    Mondays 7-8:30•  $295• 

The triple threat performer is one who can act, sing, and dance.  This class will further develop the skills that will enable your child to become a more polished performer. Some experience is required.

 

Level 3 Theater

Musical Scene Study     Ages 11+    Tuesdays 6:30-8:30  • $310   

Students are introduced to a new musical every week. Students will view excerpts from musicals and then perform songs and scenes from the shows. The students will learn vocal warm ups, scene study, musical theater history, and ensemble acting. Musicals will include High School Musical, Wicked, the Aristocats, School House Rock and others. This class will culminate in a performance! Previous voice and acting experience suggested.

Acting for Teens     Ages 12+     Saturdays 10-12    $310    Robin Hackett

Gather all ye teens and learn as well as have fun.  In this class we will study relaxation and concentration techniques, work on actions and pantomime, believability, and intentions of a character. We will learn about acting through theater games and actual scene study. Each student will be partnered with a scene partner.  This class will culminate with a night of performing the scenes for family and friends.

Get in the Act     Ages 18+     Mondays 8pm-10pm    $120    Robin Hackett

Acting for Adults! Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be on stage and under the lights, but you were too afraid to try? Well here’s your chance to join the Adult Actors at Studio B. Learn basic acting technique through exercises in sense memory, emotions, concentration, and action. It’s a fun and relaxed environment for something you’ve always wanted to try. No experience necessary. Join us!

 

All classes are twelve weeks, with the exception of Puppet Fun.   Spring Semester dates are  the week of February 16th- the week of May 18th, 2009.  We follow the LISD school calendar for holidays and school cancellations for bad weather.

No Refunds or credits on classes unless initiated by Studio B!

SPRING SATURDAY WORKSHOPS
 Saturday workshops are designed to give students a more in-depth look at certain aspects of the theater. Studio B offers one workshop each month. Register early to make sure you get your spot. For Spring 2009, Studio B is offering the following:

January 31: Improv Away
Enjoy theater improv games, exercises, and activities. Be creative, inventive and spontaneous. Learn how to work with other actors in an ensemble. With other students, create your own improv skits through the use of your imagination and props. You will walk away from this workshop with a working knowledge of the art and technique of improvisation.
Session 1: ages 7-10 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., $50
Session 2: ages 11-17 from 1:30-5:30, $60

February 21: Get the Part! Audition Workshop
By far the most popular workshop offered by Studio B–this workshop is highly recommended for anyone wishing to audition at Studio B or anywhere! Prepare for auditions with instruction on monologue and song choices. Learn how to behave at an audition, as well as putting your best “foot and face” forward. You will also learn how to put your resume together along with headshots. This workshop includes a free headshot, emailed to you after the workshop is over!
Session 1: ages 5-7 from 9-11 a.m., $50
Session 2: ages 8-10 from 11:30-2 p.m., $55
Session 3: ages 11-17 from 2:30-6 p.m., $60

March 28: You’re On! Cold Reading/Monologue Reading
Knowing how to do a cold reading at any audition is extremely important. You can make the most of your cold reading by knowing what to look for and what to ask yourself immediately upon being handed the script. This workshop will teach students how to break down a scene, give meaning to it and how to create a character within minutes. Give yourself an edge during your next audition. Some theater training suggested.
Ages 9-17 from 12:30-3:30 p.m., $55

April 18: Shakespeare for Kids
Where for art though, Shakespeare? At Studio B, of course! Students usually start reading Shakespeare in high school, but take this workshop to learn about Shakespeare in the theater. Explore the language, act out poetry and get into the Shakespearean spirit!
Ages 9+ from 12:30-3:30 p.m., $55

May 2: Song Interpretation
Who is your character? Why are they singing their song? To whom are they singing their song? These are some of the questions the singing actor must answer before performing any song. Learn the technique to help bring out the true meaning of a particular piece. Learn how to move on stage, and how to use your facial expressions. Please have a song prepared and ready to sing for this workshop. Each student will receive one on one attention. Singing and theater training suggested.
Ages 8 and up from 12:30-4:30, $60
