Saturday workshops are designed to give students a more in-depth look at certain aspects of the theater. Studio B offers one workshop each month. Register early to make sure you get your spot. For Spring 2009, Studio B is offering the following:

January 31: Improv Away
Enjoy theater improv games, exercises, and activities. Be creative, inventive and spontaneous. Learn how to work with other actors in an ensemble. With other students, create your own improv skits through the use of your imagination and props. You will walk away from this workshop with a working knowledge of the art and technique of improvisation.
Session 1: ages 7-10 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., $50
Session 2: ages 11-17 from 1:30-5:30, $60

February 21: Get the Part! Audition Workshop
By far the most popular workshop offered by Studio B–this workshop is highly recommended for anyone wishing to audition at Studio B or anywhere! Prepare for auditions with instruction on monologue and song choices. Learn how to behave at an audition, as well as putting your best “foot and face” forward. You will also learn how to put your resume together along with headshots. This workshop includes a free headshot, emailed to you after the workshop is over!

March 28: You’re On! Cold Reading/Monologue Reading
Knowing how to do a cold reading at any audition is extremely important. You can make the most of your cold reading by knowing what to look for and what to ask yourself immediately upon being handed the script. This workshop will teach students how to break down a scene, give meaning to it and how to create a character within minutes. Give yourself an edge during your next audition. Some theater training suggested.
Ages 9-17 from 12:30-3:30 p.m., $55

April 18: Shakespeare for Kids
Where for art though, Shakespeare? At Studio B, of course! Students usually start reading Shakespeare in high school, but take this workshop to learn about Shakespeare in the theater. Explore the language, act out poetry and get into the Shakespearean spirit!
Ages 9+ from 12:30-3:30 p.m., $55

May 2: Song Interpretation
Who is your character? Why are they singing their song? To whom are they singing their song? These are some of the questions the singing actor must answer before performing any song. Learn the technique to help bring out the true meaning of a particular piece. Learn how to move on stage, and how to use your facial expressions. Please have a song prepared and ready to sing for this workshop. Each student will receive one on one attention. Singing and theater training suggested.
Ages 8 and up from 12:30-4:30, $60

Studio B would like to get a group picture of children that have been involved (now and in the past) with classes or workshops. If your child is available, the group shot will be taken on Monday, May 5 at 5 p.m. in the theater. Just come casual. The picture should only take a few minutes.

Just a quick reminder that auditions and registration for children’s summer workshop productions and Sound of Music are coming up next week. No appointment is necessary for the audition. Simply show up during those times and sign in. Please have a short monologue and song prepared.

Registration for all summer workshops will be taken during those times as well. Sign up for Emperor’s New Clothes, Tom Sawyer, Set Design, Teen Improv, Cabaret and American Idol Vocal Workshop. We earn a penny for every search when Studio B is selected. Help us earn money to benefit the theater every time you are on the Internet. It is an easy way to help out!

We are also collecting donations for our upcoming silent auction to be held during Sound of Music performances.
