Auditions for All Shook Up and James & the Giant Peach Set for May 18

It’s time to brush up on your auditioning technique because Studio B Performing Arts Center will hold auditions for summer shows on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. Auditions for both the teen community production of All Shook Up and the youth community production of James & the Giant Peach will be held on May 18. Those old enough to audition for both, may do so.

Instead of a tuition-based workshop, this summer’s teen production will be audition-based and there is no fee to participate. All Shook Up auditions will be open to those entering 8th grade through early college. Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of a 50s style song and a monologue. All Shook Up is a large cast show inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. Into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing roustabout who changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that’ll have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel”, “Love Me Tender” and more! Elizabeth Nowell will direct and John Green is the musical director.

James & the Giant Peach (non-musical) auditions will be held on the same day for ages 6-19. To audition, please be prepared for cold readings from the script. It will be directed by Kevin Westbrook. A magical peach! An imprisoned boy! Insect friends! An incredible journey! This amazing adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape. Roald Dahl’s story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization that reveals the wickedness of some, the goodness of others, and the indecision encountered by many when they are faced with crises. You will see James (as he cleverly gets the Peach out of danger), the wise Old-Green-Grasshopper and the pessimistic Earthworm. You will also see James’ mean Aunt Spiker and cruel Aunt Sponge come to a suitably sticky end.

Audition forms as well as the exact rehearsal dates and times may be found here.

Of course, Studio B will also offer several summer musical theater camps including the mini camps Arf and Music All Over Me and the Star camps Hats off to Broadway and Let’s Go to the Movies and the production workshop of Disney’s Aladdin Jr this summer. Check out the full summer camp and workshop schedule on the classes page.
